Overview

The Branco Weiss Fellowship backs early-career researchers pursuing unconventional research outside the mainstream, with up to five years of funding at a host institution anywhere in the world. Applications for the 2027 fellowship open in October 2026 and close on 15 January 2027.

Eligibility

Postdoctoral researchers after their PhD and before a first faculty appointment (current postdocs eligible); natural sciences, engineering, social sciences and humanities; application needs a host institution invitation letter, research proposal and PhD certificate.

Nationality: Open to all nationalities

Funding & Benefits

Salary and research support for postdocs for up to five years at a host institution of the fellow's choice; up to ten fellowships a year.
