DKFZ International PhD Program – Winter Call 2026

Overview

Structured, fully funded PhD programme in cancer research within the DKFZ Cancer Research Academy in Heidelberg, recruiting twice a year. The current (winter) call is open with a deadline of 19 October 2026; winter-round applicants typically start between mid-March and October 2027 after interviews and an on-site visit.

Eligibility

3-year bachelor + 2-year master degree including a written master's research thesis (1-year research master's may apply but may face entrance exams); master's must be completed within 6 months of acceptance. Typical backgrounds: molecular biology, biochemistry, chemistry, physics, maths, computational biology, data science, epidemiology/public health. Non-EU degrees need recognition.

Nationality: Open to all nationalities

Funding & Benefits

Fully funded, structured programme: all DKFZ PhD students are financed throughout their 3-4 year PhD; no tuition fees (university enrolment approx. EUR 160/semester).
