Gates Cambridge Scholarship 2027/28

Overview

The Gates Cambridge Scholarship funds outstanding non-UK students to pursue a full-time postgraduate degree (master's or PhD) at the University of Cambridge in any subject. It covers tuition fees, a maintenance allowance, and travel costs. Applications for entry in 2027/28 are open, with separate October, December and January deadlines depending on applicant category and chosen course.

Eligibility

Open to outstanding applicants from outside the UK applying for a full-time postgraduate course at the University of Cambridge; around two-thirds of awards go to PhD students and about a third to other postgraduate (incl. master's) students; selection also considers potential for leadership and commitment to improving the lives of others.

Nationality: Open to applicants from any country outside the UK

Funding & Benefits

University tuition fees, a maintenance allowance (GBP 23,152 for 12 months at the 2026-27 rate, pro rata for shorter courses), round-trip economy airfare, and visa/Immigration Health Surcharge costs; discretionary funds also available for academic development, dependants and fieldwork.
