Overview
HHMI funds mentor-mentee pairs (2nd/3rd-year PhD student plus faculty advisor) in the basic biological and biomedical sciences at HHMI-eligible US institutions. The 2027 competition closes 27 October 2026, 11:59 PM ET.
Eligibility
Enrolled 2nd- or 3rd-year PhD (or dual-degree, e.g. MD-PhD) student in basic biological/biomedical sciences at an HHMI-eligible US institution; US citizens, permanent residents, DACA recipients, and eligible international students; nominated with a faculty advisor.
Nationality: US citizens, permanent residents, DACA recipients, and eligible international students at HHMI-eligible institutions
Funding & Benefits
Up to 3 years of support during the PhD: annual stipend, discretionary allowance, and institutional allowance for tuition/fees (plus up to 4 further years if continuing into an eligible postdoc).
