Overview
Research MPhil and PhD programme at HKUST's Division of Life Science covering neuroscience, cancer biology, cell signalling, stem cells, structural biology, biotechnology/medicinal biochemistry and genomics/epigenomics. Applications for the 2027/28 Fall intake opened on 1 September 2026 and are reviewed on a rolling basis, so applying early is advised; the final deadline for non-local applicants is 1 June 2027. The term starts 1 September 2027.
Eligibility
Bachelor's (MPhil) or bachelor's with outstanding record / master's or postgraduate research experience (PhD) in biological, chemical or physical sciences; TOEFL iBT 80 or IELTS 6.5 (waived for English-medium bachelor's degree). Non-local applicant deadline 1 June 2027; admission is on a rolling basis.

Funding & Benefits
Admitted research postgraduates may receive the HKUST Postgraduate Studentship of HK$229,620 per year (up to 2 years for MPhil, up to 4 years for PhD). International PhD students may also receive the HKUST RedBird PhD Award (HK$40,000 recruitment award plus first-year tuition waiver). RPg tuition is HK$47,000/year.
