Overview
JSPS's flagship 12-24 month postdoctoral fellowship lets early-career foreign researchers do cooperative research with a host lab in Japan in any field, including life sciences and biotechnology. Applications go through the Japanese host institution; the FY2027 second recruitment closes on 23 April 2027 (5 p.m. JST) for fellowships starting 1 September - 30 November 2027, with about 120 awards.
Eligibility
Citizen of a country with diplomatic relations with Japan; doctoral degree obtained within six years of the fellowship start (as of 1 April of the fiscal year) or expected before start; must be hosted by a full-time researcher at a KAKENHI-eligible Japanese institution, which submits the application to JSPS.
Nationality: Countries with diplomatic relations with Japan (incl. Bangladesh)
Funding & Benefits
JPY 362,000 per month stipend, round-trip air ticket, JPY 200,000 settling-in allowance and overseas travel insurance (airfare and settling-in allowance not given if already resident in Japan); 12-24 months.
