Overview

The University of Tokyo's School of Science nominates international applicants for MEXT scholarships for Master's and Doctoral study (including biological sciences) starting October 2027. Online applications are accepted 15-30 October 2026 (JST); nominees are notified in mid-February 2027 and MEXT decisions come around June 2027.

Eligibility

Non-Japanese nationals; GPA 2.30 or higher; English CEFR B2 or Japanese N2; able to arrive in Japan by October 2027; previous MEXT recipients generally ineligible.

Nationality: Non-Japanese nationals (countries with diplomatic relations with Japan), incl. Bangladesh

Funding & Benefits

JPY 144,000/month (Master's) or JPY 145,000/month (Doctoral), economy return airfare, tuition and enrollment fees waived, and first-year housing guarantee at UTokyo International Lodge.
