Overview
An interdepartmental PhD programme at MIT spanning microbial genetics, physiology, ecology, pathogenesis and synthetic biology. Admitted students receive full support. The application opens 1 October 2026 and closes 1 December 2026, with interview invitations in mid-January 2027.
Eligibility
Bachelor's degree; three recommendation letters, statement of objectives, transcripts; IELTS 7 or TOEFL iBT 100 for non-native speakers unless exempt; GRE not required; in-person interview required.

Funding & Benefits
All students receive a stipend/salary sufficient for living in the Boston area, tuition and single-person health insurance; first year funded by the Provost's Office and departments, then as Research Assistants.
