Overview

RIKEN hires PhD students enrolled at Japanese universities as part-time Junior Research Associates to carry out their doctoral research in RIKEN labs, including biology and medical science. The online application deadline is 13:00 JST on 16 October 2026; contracts run from April or October 2027 and are renewable up to the end of the PhD.

Eligibility

Must be enrolled in a doctoral programme at a Japanese graduate school as of 1 April 2027 (or 1 October 2027 for autumn hiring), typically via joint graduate school programmes or research collaborations with RIKEN. Any nationality.

Funding & Benefits

Part-time contract salary of JPY 250,000/month (tax included) plus commuting allowance up to JPY 150,000/month; 5 hours/day, Monday-Friday.
