Overview

Wellcome's large, flexible grants for established researchers pursuing bold ideas in health-related science. Applications are accepted any time, with shortlisting in April and November and decisions in July 2027 for the current cycle.

Eligibility

Established researchers with international standing and a record of leading others; administering organisation in the UK, Ireland or an eligible LMIC (from 29 October 2026: UK and LMICs in Africa, South Asia and Southeast Asia, which includes Bangladesh).

Nationality: Host organisation in UK or eligible LMIC incl. Bangladesh

Funding & Benefits

Average award GBP 3.5 million (requests over GBP 5 million face extra scrutiny) for up to 8 years, covering the resources needed for the research programme.
